How to remove Algae from your Patio
How to deal with a patio that’s green rather than stone colour!
So, how do you give your patio a proper good clean ready for the Spring?
Patios can look very care worn during the winter with a build up of algae and moss. This is particularly apparent when the weather warms up and the days are longer and you start to use it again.
The product we’ll see in action is the ECOCHEM Multi Surface Algae Remover which makes up to 20 litres from its 1 litre container.
This algae, moss and lichen remover is antibacterial, safe for use where children and pets play and safe for use on hard landscaping such as paving blocks, slabs, tarmac, chips, brickwork, stone, roofs etc. Great for cleaning sports courts such as tennis courts, netball courts etc.
Preparation
The first thing you’ll need to do is brush off any heavy moss growth with a stiff brush – this way you’ll expose the moss stems before treatment. Once done you’re ready to start the treatment.
Applying the algae remover
Follow these instructions to remove the algae, moss and lichen from your patio. Make sure you have 2-4 days for the treatment since that’s how long the treatment needs to be in contact with your patio.
- Dilute 1:4 of product with water for normal use (coverage =40m²)
- Dilute 1:9 of product with water for light growth (coverage =90m²)
- Apply with a sprayer, brush, watering can with rose etc.
- Leave for 2 to 4 days before rinsing off with water.
- Rinse out applicator after use.
Pro Tips
Remember to allow a contact time of 2-4 days. Don’t let it get in contact with real grass – AstroTurf is fine!
Don’t apply product if the surface is wet or rain is expected in the next 12 hours.
This product will also clean black mould but residual black mould staining may be persistent. Repeat applications may be necessary.
If in doubt with any surfaces, test product on a inconspicuous area.
Restrict child and pet access to the area while the area is wet.
